Some friends of mine were kind enough to send me an invitation to join GMail!  Needless to say, I jumped on the chance to register marklio immediately.  Thanks guys!

My first request of GMail is to let me change the reply-to address so I can hide it behind another address using forwarding, the way I currently do with my mail.com address and my RoadRunner account.  I'd really like to use a marklio.com address (don't send email there, it doesn't exist) as my email address because I feel like I own it.

If anyone has thoughts on what I should do with my email address, let me know.

P.S.  You've gotta love this:

You are currently using 0 MB (0%) of your 1000 MB

Update: I'm now set up to use my old method in parallel with gmail!  The only issue now is consolidating my sent mail.

Wow, you jumped on the gmail a lot faster than I thought you would! Does it give you the option to invite people too? You could maybe have a fun deal to see who wants your invites if you get to invite people.

Nope, unfortunately no invitations to hand out. Maybe after using it for a while I'll get some.

I like it so far, too. Wish it had a signature line setting. I don't know how I'll end up using gmail, since right now I have all my mail coming to one place: my computer running squirrelmail. I highly doubt google POP/IMAP access would be free if they offered it, and I'm not sure it would be worth it. And since it is so javascript-heavy, a "gotmail"-style script to extract mail from the webpage is probably a long ways off.

Maybe I'll eventually forward my mail from my other mail accounts to gmail, if I decide to use it. Can't beat google's online reliability (I've only seen it down 2 or 3 times).

I don't like that it didn't play nice with Opera, but FireFox isn't too bad.

"The only issue now is consolidating my sent mail."

One way to do that is to auto-BCC to your gmail account. There should be a setting in whatever mail program you're using to always BCC to an address.

You could then put a filter in gmail to label it something. I think you could have filters so that you could see all mail sent from either account in one list.
