If you're interested in photography, you might be interested in the comments that Jerry left on my wishlist entry, especially if you've got a Canon Digital Rebel.

Jerry, I think the stabilization will help with my indoor problems.  I'm sure you know the situation I mean.  The light is just perfect on a sleeping cat, so you don't want to destroy it with a flash, but you can't capture it at a low ISO setting without camera shake and the tri/mono-pod would take too long to find/attach/adjust before the cat wakes up and ruins everything.  So I think the longer range becomes more important.  I enjoyed your lens quite a bit, so I think that's the one I'm going to aim for.  Besides, at wider angles, the low light problems become less prevalent.

BTW, I picked up the battery grip very soon after playing with yours this summer.  I love that thing.

I think you made a copy/paste error on your sweet bag url in your comments.  What was it?  I couldn't find it in the short time I searched. I'm going to add that too.

I've updated my wishlist accordingly.

Oh, sorry.. that's the grip link... Here's the right one

The Canon stabilization *claims* to provide 2 extra stops past the "reciprocal rule" (if you're at 50mm, the slowest shutter you can hand-hold is 1/50s). But with my grip and extra battery (another biggie you should look at), I can easily hand-hold to 1/2s. I think my record was a night shot that was 2.8 seconds long. Sure it was blurry a bit, but still usable. (http://jerryknight.dyndns.org/gallery/album02/CRW_1025)

I rarely pull the drebel out of ISO 100 and the farthest I'll go is 400. I hate the digital noise, and my favorite films (from those days) are ISO 50-100 slide films (not at all forgiving with under-exposing), so I'm used to having to hold the camera super-still.

So for general purpose, I love my lens. It has semi-wide angle (28mm = ~45mm equiv.) at f/3.5 and semi-long reach (135mm = ~215mm equiv.) at f/5.6. If you need more zoom, the 1.4x or 2x converter is an option. I plan on getting the 10-22mm someday for my ultra-wide stuff.

If you want more batteries, go here:

I haven't studied how well the battery grip handles 2 batteries versus one, but it's hopefully at least twice as long. (Laptops sometimes can run longer than twice as long with two batteries using smart switching..)

Just a glimpse of the top of the lens heap (in the category of stabilized multi-purpose zoom lenses)...
